Preparing for your first visit

Advance planning makes it easy

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. In some cases treatment may occur on the same day as the consultation.

Before your first visit

1. Complete your online patient registration
Prior to your visit, please complete your registration using our secure online portal. When you call to schedule your appointment, our office staff will provide you with login information to complete your online registration.

2. Provide insurance information
Before your appointment, provide any dental insurance information to our financial coordinators so they can coordinate with your insurance provider to determine a cost estimate for your consultation and treatment.

3. Let us know about allergies, medical conditions and medications
Prior to treatment, please alert the office if you have any allergies or medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) that may be of concern or if you are on any medications (e.g., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

Before your root canal treatment

As you plan for your root canal appointment, take note of the following for added peace of mind for you and your family:

Driving and return to work — Endodontic treatment will be performed using local anesthesia and, typically, there are no restrictions concerning driving or returning to work after the procedure. So it is not necessary to make special arrangements for transportation before treatment.

Medications — Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician.

Normal eating — Please eat a full breakfast or lunch.

Antibiotic premedication — If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication because of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, hip, knee, cardiac or other prosthesis, or if you have rheumatic heart disease, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.

A doctor is available at all times should a problem arise after your treatment.

When you visit

Please bring your referral slip if it was given to you by your referring dentist.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all appointments.

X-rays

If your dentist has taken radiographs (x-rays), you may request that he/she forward them to our office. In most cases, however, it will be necessary to obtain a digital radiograph in our office prior to your consultation/treatment.
